Judas update Saw some of National Geographic's Lost Gospel of Judas program last night. Wasn't too bad, really, and fairly standard NG fare, meaning it wasn't overly sensational and reasonably balanced. Basically it was a program on the Gnostics and they set the new gospel within this context. Came to largely the same conclusions as other commenters elsewhere (see here for example): That this is probably less historical than the other gospels and says more about the Gnostic movement than anything else. Worth seeing in repeat though. The NG link above has a lot of sections

Having a bit of trouble with the extent of the translation/restoration provided in the pgogram though. Near the end they said only a portion of the codex had been restored and translated, but one gets the impression that the entire Judas portion is now done and published. There are other writings within the codex though, so maybe it's only those portions that are not yet finished.

UPDATE: Donald Sensing has more here.
