Archaeologist digs for truth on burial ground
Archaeologists will conduct a small exploratory dig in the Vernon Center area within the next two weeks to determine if the site of a planned subdivision lays on an ancient American Indian burial ground.

State Archaeologist Nicholas F. Bellantoni walked the 27-acre site just off Trout Stream Drive on Thursday with town officials and Glastonbury developer Jose D. Correia, who has an application before the Planning and Zoning Commission to build a nine-lot subdivision there.

"There are no written documents, simply oral tradition, but when you look at it environmentally, you can see there is a potential there" for Indian graves, Bellantoni said.
